Cold open

157 wallets a day sent a dollar stablecoin to another wallet on Cardano over the past week, 9 percent more than the week before.

Last week's calls

First, the scorecard. We said the newest epoch stake snapshot counts fewer than 1,303,343 stake accounts on October 11; epoch 660's counts 1,304,104. An epoch is Cardano's five-day cycle; rewards and votes are counted epoch by epoch. It measured 1,303,540, so we got that one wrong. We said ADA longs are still paying shorts on Strike on October 10. It measured 54.35 percent, so we got that one right. We said ADA closes above $0.2610 on October 9, 2 percent above where it was on October 2. It measured $0.2399, so we got that one wrong. That puts the running record at 15 right, 9 wrong, 1 void.

Dollars changing hands

Are Cardano's dollar stablecoins being spent? Counting only stablecoins sent from one wallet to a different one, not to a contract and not back as change, 157 wallets a day sent one over the past week, 9 percent more than the week before. A single sender made a large share of the payments, so we count the wallets rather than the payments. Why it matters: a stablecoin is meant to be spent, and this counts only dollars that changed hands.

ADA

Also today. ADA is at 24.8 cents, down 2.2 percent on the day — up 19.2 percent over thirty days and up 1.2 percent on the week. Since the last episode it has moved down 1.9 percent.

Transactions a day

One more thing. How much is Cardano actually used? Over the past seven days the chain carried 29.4 thousand transactions a day on average. That is 9 percent fewer than the week before. That works out to 0.34 transactions a second on average, and the busiest minute of the week ran at 2.1 a second. One Cardano transaction can carry many payments at once, so a count of transactions is a floor on activity, not a ceiling. The number of wallets transacting, counted by stake key, averaged 7.9 thousand a day, 8 percent fewer than the week before. These counts leave out transactions sent to a single address that alone took a quarter or more of a day's activity, because one sender is not wider use. A transaction here is anything recorded on the chain, from a payment to a swap to a vote, so this counts activity, not people.

Today's claim

Now the prediction. Today's claim: Cardano's seven-day average is below 28.5 thousand transactions a day seven days from now, 2.9 percent below this week's. It stands at 29,350 as this is recorded. We'll score it on October 18, automatically, against the same measurement — and if it's wrong, it stays on the board as wrong. Think I've got it wrong?
